Forsythia Pruning Instructions
Forsythia are often used as a hedge plant. If a more wild look or a grown in hedge is the goal, leave them un-pruned. If you prefer a more manicured look, we recommend pruning them every year, right after they bloom. This will help them maintain a uniform shape. We recommend pruning them after bloom because they bloom on the prior year's growth, the older branches. When you prune right after they are finished blooming it is easy to tell the new branches from old, therefore preventing homeowners from accidentally pruning off next year's blooms.
