Concrete is long lasting and can provide a quick and inexpensive solution for patios and pathways. However, it can crack or sink over time and can look dirty and dated. One solution to the problem of failing concrete hardscapes is simply to cover the concrete with natural stone. This relatively small landscape project can reap big results.
Benefits of Covering Concrete with Natural Stone
- Natural stone doesn't fade or stain
- Sidestep the problem of mismatched new & old concrete
- Avoid a messy and time consuming removal & disposal project
- Natural Stone can be easily repaired
- A solid base already exists
Take a look at this Before & After Shot of a concrete backyard path and entrance at a home in Cary, IL.
The Landscape Design suggested using a thermal full range bluestone for the project to accent the color and style of the home as well as the boulder retaining wall. The rectangular shapes create a sharp modern contrast to the rounded path of the walkway. We also exaggerated the curve of the path slightly to highlight the planting of a new ornamental tree and increase the size of the planting bed between the retaining wall and path. A coordinating brick paver stoop replaced a failing concrete stoop as the entrance to the home off the patio.
